Send lyrics from VST Live to presentation software or projector

@UdoBehm you gave me an idea…. In the tracks view, for lyrics tracks, we have in the inspector, a field where we can set output, at the moment the only possibility is to send it to the audience visualizer (a module internal to VST live to see dmx colors, chords, and … LYRICS ONE AT A TIME) …

So, the routing is already here…. @musicullum @Spork …. Could this be used to implement a lyrics output to … something … like a video overlay to a video output, or a data stream over a network protocol I don’t know … just an idea … same with chords track… output in inspector is already here but at the moment only for audience visualizer!

Cheers, Ciro.

NDI output could be an option. @Spork

suggested NDI input / output already back in time for V1
But that is technically complicated, and as user, I dont think it should be high prio… …and why not Syphon for e.g.

Easier to use NDI Tools or VMix DesktopCapture. But where NDI would be useful would be to send Lyrics with an Alpha channel. Anyway, as u said, there are more urgent areas of focus.

Actually I think I would almost like VST Live to do what the ProPresenter software can do.
Especially as soon as it becomes possible to control VST Live remotely via a network, I would be more than interested if VST Live could perhaps even include video loops or if you could get into the position of being able to integrate video loops yourself.
If the current song text (only the current song line) could also be displayed, VST Live would actually be what I would want with such an export function to an external projection software program…

If I say, you can do both?

How would I do it? Can you explain to me?

Hi @UdoBehm :

  1. via iOS app (MODS) you can select song and start, if u don’t like it
  2. via rtpMIDI, if u don’t like it
  3. via Stream Deck mobile app (free until 6 buttons)
  4. via TouchOSC, if u don’t like it
  5. VNC to your VSTL computer via tablet
  1. you can airplay (or HDMI) via the iOS app in “SETLIST” view mode, if you don’t like it
  2. you can send it out via SysEx (if the receiver app can read and display), if you don’t like it
  3. you can create image (or video) files with the titles and put them into your songs and play on “video-out”, if you don’t like it
  4. you can sync VL with a teleprompter app (MIDI#CC, MTC)

5 + 4 solutions :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

@UdoBehm more in detail, the best workaround for text on video at the moment is still images or synced video, with real black (0,0,0 rgb) background.

Black become transparent in VST Live, so you can have two video tracks, one with your visuals (paste multiple times and fade in out accordingly if you need a looped visual) the other with your text, black background will be transparent so you will see the visuals with superimposed text from second video.

This sounds all interesting. As far as I know the developers of VST Live are working on a solution to remotely control VST Live through a (seperate) graphical interface that can be independently controlled from the main VST Live interface that is running on the computer.

As far as I understand your suggestions, I would be able controlling VST Live through a network using any kind of app or software or MIDI protocol that is able to communicate with VST Live on my Windows machine. However, there is no tool available yet that can reproduce the surface of VST Live (or parts of the software) that would allow to immediately control the mixer for example or other parts of VST Live yet that I do not have configured on my own. Do I see that right? (except the iOS app which only allows to see lyrics, chords, etc. on iOS devices that I do not have, is that right too?)

Would love being able to let’s say independently double the interface of VST Live and give a second person (a technician) control over VST Live too while I would use it on stage or vice verca…

Thats why @fkalmus suggested VNC - its screen sharing with remote control.

There are also programs that will let you design a control interface and generate the necessary messages.

It’s all doable if you’re prepared to think a little outside the box.

Yes, but VNC shares only the same screen, doesn’t it? And all the other solutions need to be built by the user or are not fully implemented yet as this thread is saying: Vst live & touchosc

If we are misunderstanding your needs then please use clearer language.

…seems like a pretty clear request to me. Do you expect the tech to be able to have a different view on the same software? What is “independently double” if it is not a copy of the same screen?
Regardless: Sharing control is a dangerous suggestion - what if you both reach for the same slider at once? Perhaps you haven’t thought this through sufficiently.
TouchOSC is one way of skinning the cat but it doesn’t make our suggestions irrelevant or unusable.

I just would like a mixer interface for example for the iOS and hopefully soon Android app.

Of course it would be nice having something like an app to that can remotely control VST Live.

For Ableton Live for example there exists a TouchAble app (https://zerodebug.com/) that can also be used from a second, third, forth or fifth Windows or MAC computer.

Something I would like to have or see for VST Live too, best on all ecosystems, maybe even useable and controllable and even better configurable in size and look and features from a browser…

Actions have MIDI input. What’s the problem?

That I would like to best have a configurable and/or pre-degined GUI that still can be customizable and be controlled via touch on different screens or pkatforms, like the touchAble app that is available for different platforms. MIDI is a good start but imo not enough and not user friendly enough…

As I believe has been said before, there are some programs that will let you build your own interface exactly to your needs that use MIDI. VSTL is starting to send MIDI feedback for control surfaces which will improve over time. Perhaps if you invested some time exploring them it will find your needs can be met.
I think it’s pretty clear to me that, apart from Live Mods which I believe will be adding remote control, there won’t be any other GUI’s - you’re going to need to roll your own if you want specific functionality.
You may see MIDI as “unfriendly” but it is a well defined, documented, and widely used protocol. Once set up you will never need to see it as it will be working under the hood.
Again - I don’t see the problem if you’re able/willing to do a little work. In the meantime this is becoming somewhat of a circular discussion.

I can understand what you mean. Still I hope that Steinberg will provide some easy configurable and pre-defined “mods” (or apps or whatever it will be that already contain GUI elements that maybe only need to be “trained”) so it’s easier to implement these things than having to configure each and everything on the users side…

Also I think that the Actions & Shortcuts menu isn’t very user friendly as it is right now… but that may be my opinion. I’m missing more MIDI learn functions and more GUI elements and pre-defined faders, buttons, sliders, mostly already prepared “pages” that can be used easily and don’t have to be configured on the users side from scratch on
