Sending delays to Compressor... stuck

Hello, I am trying to compress the delay effect on a vocal so that it is more contained during the singing and come out during breaths. I have inserted a compressor after the delay effect channel. What else should I do now? I dont know the following steps, could someone please help me out?

Sidechain the compressor from the vocal track, or if you´re using the cubase delay, just sidechain the delay directly, without a compressor.
