Hey all, can anyone help me setup cubase so I can run my project out from cubase to run through all my hardware and back into cubase for fx and signal processing? I’ve never done it before. See the video for my settings. I think I’m close, but in my project both the main mix out and the external processing play at the same time.
I have all my hardware summed into a mixer and then into cubase. I have cables from my soundcard outs (non main) back into the same mixer. Both the main out mix snd this sub mix play at the same time. How can I mute the main mix while being able to hear and record my processing from my sub mix?
Even if I never attempted an external audio process of a whole project, I do use external instruments, so…
Few comments first :
It would have been better to extend ALL your stereo busses in each panel, with the Expand All button reachable in the upper right, to clarify the actual inputs/outputs involved. I guess that, in example, the MINI-XD one actually uses both Line Ins 5 and 6, but it’s just a assumption…
All the tracks are muted. I guess that it’s an attempt to mute the original project before its processing, but still… Why is the ZED14 MIXER IN // track muted also ?
The EXT. PROCESSING track is routed to EXT. PROCESS (2 hardware outputs). Why not ? But I’m wondering what the existing External effect bus is for, in this case.
So, I would suggest an alternate way to set all this, using the External Effects panel and the already existing send/return bus, but with actual hardware inputs/outputs. On my end, I have three External Instruments Return busses used with the necessary hardwares inputs (no need for outputs, as it’s MIDI messages that are sent). Following this idea, I created a test external effect bus, getting this :
In your case, I would use both your Line Inputs 7/8 and Line Outputs 5/6 to create one. Then, to use this bus, I would create a stereo track with its Input Routing set to the external effect return bus just created in the dedicated panel. After this, there will be other issues such as unavoidable latency coming from the round trip, the monitoring, etc… But I guess that you get the picture. I think it could be a more coherent way to solve your routing problem. If working, I would then get rid of all the unnecessary busses, such as the Outputs > EXT. PROCESS one.
