How do I separate e.g. Flute 1 and 2, which was written on one staff in Finale, with a2, single stems and double stems sections onto 2 staves? At the moment I create 2 new staves, use explode and then delete the original staff. Is there any other way that Dorico can achieve this?
There are number of possibilities. This one is quick and simple.
- Select all the notes
- Move all notes to the other staff (Alt-M) - this merges the voices (!)
- Filter (Select)>Top notes
- Move them back to top staff (Alt-N)
Any sections that end up on the wrong staff (perhaps because voices crossed) can swapped back (right-click>paste special>swap)

Dear Janus,
Thank you so much for your kind advice. I have now mastered the process. With Dorico doing such an amazing job with condensing, I wondered if it also had a “one button” conversion for XML. ![]()
