Serious BUG - Remove Unused Media

Remove unsed media - function that previously worked perfect now a nightmare in N15. I have to press more then one time to remove unused media. And it is terribly slow.

And what is more scary - it is removing USED media!

Steinberg always breakes something working for decades in new versions!

I attach pictures you can see the numbers.

This already is reported and documented in the internal bugbase.

Nasty bug.

As a workaround, I load my project in N14 to clean up and then go back to N15.

Fredo

Ouch! Nasty bug indeed.

I hope this gets fixed so I can upgrade on the next sale.

Potential for serious problems there! After getting burned badly by the ‘Remove U:nused Media’ function a few years ago in different way - I simply never use it anymore and accept large project file backups.

What status does the project have to be in for this to happen?

This website really needs a section with technical alerts. We shouldn’t have to keep a careful eye on the forum to find these things and then do troubleshooting ourselves when things have been confirmed.

I agree. This is a serous bug. I always remove unused media before archiving a finished project. This is scary because now I need to retroactively go back and make sure that everything is there. This is one of those things that significantly lowers one’s confidence in a product. And I imagine that if proper regression testing was done, this wouldn’t exist.

Lost hours of work because of that. Steinberg please fix :frowning:

This should be a top priority hot fix.

absolutely!

It’s so disrespectful to the costumers that a problem like this exists, has been acknowledged (good first step), but there’s no communication around it. It’s something that might easily cause someone to lose work.

A company that respects its costumers would announce that a serious problem has been found, suggest temporary workarounds (or just say to avoid the feature altogether) and work towards a fix.

I have to agree with you Mart I’ve been burned too many times to trust it at this point. I let things build up and will run a backup (minimize) on the project once its delivered and QC approved. There is another related reference link bug when using Import from other tracks that I reported a few times that can lead to mistakenly losing work. I hope this will make Steinberg really look carefully at how it handles references to its files in a project between audio and edits folder etc.

This is one of the reasons why I never work nowadays without a real-time backup to both an internal HHD and backblaze b2 with infinite versioning (the local copy is version-limited). Anything that passes by my active projects folder gets instantly send to both locations and never gets deleted from backblaze unless I go there through the browser and delete it manually. And I only do that after I have finished the project, backed it up under its archiving name, zipped it, reopened the zip and made sure everything is working.

It has saved me numerous times!

What I’ve done on important jobs is to “prepare archive” first, then deleted anything I don’t want in the project, then “remove unused media”, then “Backup Project”, then put the original in the trash in Windows Explorer, and finally re-opened the backed up project from the new location.

If something’s missing I’ve always gotten an error at that point.

Then I empty trash.

Simple, right?
