Set MIDI-Remote setting as default

Hey there,

I’ve looked through the forum but haven’t seen this question yet. If it has been answered already I apologise.

Here’s my question: I’ve set up a script for my AKAI controller that works perfectly fine and does just what I want it to. Yet every time I start a new project I have to load this specific script again. Is there an option like “set current script as default” or something similar? Since it is the only controller I currently use it would be handy not to have to set it up / load it up every time.

Thank you!

Hi,

The MIDI Remote scripts are global. How exactly do you start a new project? How exactly do you load the script?

Hi,

A new project is usually my template or a clean project. In both cases no script is active unless I activate it manually which is what I would like to change.
I active the sript by opening the MIDI remote section and choosing my preset. So it’s pretty easy but it seems pointless to do it all the time.

not sure, if this applies to what you’re experiencing, but MIDI Remote Mappings can be project specific, rather than global:

Hi,

What kind of preset do you mean? Do you maybe select your custom Page?

Hi Martin,

I choose the preset I have set up from the assistant. See screenshot.

Then I select my device (first red circle) and after that the actual preset (second rec circle)

Hi,

Could you make a video, or could you make a set of screenshots, how does it look like in the new project, please?

Hi Martin,

I think we might misunderstood each other here. The menu in my screenshot is the exact same menu I open every time - be it in a new project or in an older project where I haven’t activated the Midi remote setting/preset that I choose from that menu. So in short my question would be if I can make this setting a default setting so that I don’t have to go to this menu and activate it all the time.

Thank you!

Hi,

I’m sorry, could you please attach screenshots, how does it look like on your side? You should get the setting immediately by default. You should not do this when creating a new project.

Therefore I would like to know, how does it look like, when you create a project.

Hi,

First I create an empty project. See screenshot 1

When I create an audio track and try to control the volume with my controller it doesn’t work at first because it’s not activated yet. (Screenshot 2)

So next I click on the little button in the top right corner to open the remote assistant. (Screenshot 3)

In the assistant I choose the device and the assignment. After that everything works as expected. (Screenshot 4)

If I start a project by using one of my templates (Screenshot 1, below “empty”), everything works as expected right away because the project was saved that way. The same goes for all projects where I set up the MIDI remote the same way I described above. So it really isn’t a big problem at all. I would just be nice to have the option to save a certain setup as default which I can’t find.

Thank you!

Hi,

thank you. This doesn’t apply here because I have no trouble finding the script in a new project or an older one where it isn’t activated yet. My problem is that it is not activated by default. (See my latest post in this thread)

Hi,

What happens, if you create an Empty project and open the MIDI Remote tab in the Lower Zone, please?

Hi,

I created an empty project the same way I previously described and I get this view in the lower zone:

So I see both scripts I have but neither of them is active.

Hi,

From this one, I understand, you have to select the correct page. Isn’t this the case?

Yes, I choose the controller (MPD218) and the assignment (MPD Control)
I could do the same in the lower zone but either way I have to choose first for the script to be active.

Hi,

The scripts are working even without selecting them. My guess is, that your scripts are using the 1st (default) page at the very beginning. But you need to select “Prog 13” to get your desired functions. You have to do this manually.

From what I understand you want the remote to be directed not to the default page but to a later one. One way to workaround this, is to create a totally empty template, setup up your MRs in it, and recall this template instead of a “real” empty one.

Yes, this is correct and that’s a good work around. As mentioned before it works with my other templates too. The whole point of this thread was to ask the community if there is a way to make my last setting the default but it seems there isn’t any.

Exactly, when we’re using MRs setup using the assistant.
When using scripting (which doesn’t seem to be the case here) we can make it start from whichever page we want. Just mentioning it, in case you have any MRs scripted.

Hi,

thank you - this solves it for me.
I have transferred the settings from my setting “prog 13” to the default setting and now it works perfectly in every project and by default. It would still be nice to have an option to choose which setting you want to be the default but since I only use one it’s fine in my case. Thank you!
