Hi there!
Apologies if my google foo was not up to snuff on this.
When I set the fixed number of bars per system to 4:
My parts, understandably come out thusly:
Is there an automatic way of treating the multiple measure rests as one bar? - This is for a symphony orchestra, so I don’t think they’ll be too annoyed (or annoyed at all) by this, but I am curious as it could save a page here and there. Trees, you know. And I don’t know if I want to go through all 30 individual parts futzing like I used to do on another program
I don’t think so, (though I wait to be proved wrong).
But in a layout like that, it’s probably easier to turn off the 4-bars to a system, which would let Dorico put several multi-bars together, and then manually fix the bars that actually have notes.
Most symphony orchestras could probably cope with a larger and more varied number of bars to a line, surely?

Thanks for the reply. One would think for sure. Looking at other examples from other arrangements (written for the Boston Pops) and they def seem to stick to the 4 bar/line rule.
You know, on further reflection – these parts will be printed on 9x12 two fold paper… which means anything 4 pages or less will use the same amount of paper. I’m just gonna leave it as is.
I will admit that “treat multi-measure rests as one bar” was an option on Finale, and I could see a use case for it…. but being that I’m not using it now – maybe not a need.
Also I just have to say… it seems Dorico is automatically laying out rests at page turns. So freaking brilliant.
