Setting for timing rhythm feel

Hello everyone,

I am having trouble setting up the “deefault timing rhythm feel” so that it plays a “shuffle” jazz style so that the second 1/8 note coincides with the third 1/8 triple exactly.

I’ve tried all of them, comparing them, and for some reason, to my ears, the second 8th note sounds latter. I also tried Edit to Not Depend on tempo.

See the 1st two beats of each bar. The tempo is 60 bpm
Any ideas?

Thanks a lot.

I made a new fresh file with piano only

once I start editing the ratio of my style it doesn’t respond any more, it does not matter if I slide all the way to the left or to the right.

help please, I think something is wrong with my computer

thans a lot

Set the following in Playback Options:

Now you need to do any one of these things:

  1. Delete the existing tempo marking.
  2. Leave the existing tempo marking but, at the start of the flow, type Shift-T shuffle, select shuffle from the menu that appears and hit Enter (this will put a swing feel signpost in, which with your current visibility settings will be invisible).
  3. Select the existing tempo marking, hit Enter to bring up the popover to edit it (but don’t edit it) and hit Enter.

I don’t know why this is necessary, but seemingly it is - the existing tempo marking is preventing your edits to the swing feel from taking effect.

Hi Leo,

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.

I tested the first solution but didn’t work for me. Maybe I am missing something. I am going to attached to this message.

No matter where I put the ratio slide

Sorry - my screenshot above was less than helpful.
You want a ratio of 2.0:1

…and then after you’ve set that, try editing the existing tempo marking and hitting Enter (to confirm it).

Thank Leo,

that works, but it seems that every time one changes default timing or edit it, the hit Enter trick have to be done.

thank you for sharing your expertise, I spent the entire morning trying to get the right swing feel. I give up and post it here the question.

all the best to you and the Dorico Team,
