Hi
Sometime back I was going on about recording gain on Genos / Now Genos 2.
I found out that using the Compressor gain In the master section actually got the recording level in Cubase up to 18Luf’s which is the sweet spot for mixing in Cubase 14. The thing is, does this compressor work as a compressor or a gain tool in reality or does it squeeze the recording.
I once rang Yamaha UK and the tech guy said he had exported the midi file Into the Genos flat no compression from Genos and uses a plugin in IK multimedia’ Mixbox. So obviously it has a gain control. At that time he said he could not remember which one it was called.
A a very wise Genos player said go flat, no compression and all sliders max 127 which i did not understand at the time. The Genos should have plenty of headroom. puzzling.
So i think now that you mix a song on the Genos at a good slider level, shove them all up to max when exporting to Cubase 14.
This i will now have to try as this could push the gain up somewhat. I always make sure that the song level in the mixer is max also before exporting.
The Genos does seem to struggle with output gain and if you put the gain up too much in Cubase 14 you will get a noise floor which Cubase Wavlab can sort out or Izotope RX elements can do.
Seeing that Steinberg Cubase 14 and Yamaha are together as a company can someone tell me what is the best settings for to record a midi song from Genos 2.
There must be quite a few Genos 2 and Cubase owners out there and probably on this forum,
It would be interest how others set up Genos 2 for Cubase 14.
Other forums only seem to be interested in sample packs and chord looper stuff. It does really need a separate manual for recording Genos 2 to Cubase as The Genos 2 is a lousy controller performer, but the CC121 makes up for that.
Any help would be appreciated.`
all the Best
John
Ps You get none of this trouble with VST , but the Genos and stylemaking is great for a backing band
