Setting Note Duration

I’m a convert from Finale. I’m used to using numbers on the comp. keyboard for midi note input. 7 being the whole note. When I google this, it says go Pref / Key Commands / then ‘search’ for ‘set note duration’. When I do, it never finds ‘set note duration’. ??

In Preferences, you normally should find it:
Keycommands>Note Input>Set note duration. Don’t you have it?

Yes, Thank you. I kept typing ‘set note duration’ in the search bar, but it didn’t come up. The google directive forgot to mention ‘note input’.

One more question, so on Finale, 3 = 16th, 4 = 8th, 5 = qtr. I’m a little unclear from the window to the right, how I change the numbers… change 6 to 5, etc.

For example, select “1/4 note”. Then click the “Press shortcut” button. It will look like nothing is hapening, which is a bit strange. But then, type “5”, and you will be able to confirm by clicking “Add Key Command”.

And also, for each duration, remove the factory shortcut, since you will need it for another duration.

Great. That worked. One more thing, is there a way of entering vertical chord symbols. With G/B for example, with the bass note underneath? You’ve been a huge help! Thanks, I’ve worked on Finale for 40 years, but am finally getting some traction with Dorico.

You are welcome! I suggest you to open a new thread for this question, not only because I have no idea about the answer, but because it will make things more efficient for the forum users!

Try Engraving Options>Chord Symbols>Altered Bass Notes...
