Setting recording levels and terminology

When I’m setting levels preparing to record, I really like the fact that the Cubase mixing console has a red light that goes on and STAYS on until you reset it. I notice though that some equipment just lights up at the point of overload and then it goes off… which means if I’m monitoring a long piece of music, even briefly looking away for 1 second means I could miss it. What’s the correct way to describe these two different types of alerts? How do you deal with the the ones that just flash momentarily at the clipping point?

I deal with this by giving me enough headroom to not come close to clipping.

I call it peak hold - and infinite, but called Forever in Cubase.

Usually you can set a time to hold peaks.

Search manual on “peak hold”.

Rightclicking on meters you can set this on the menu.
