Probably because you can fit more 1/4" jacks on an interface of 1 RU, than you can XLRs
Some people use Headphone amps, in the recording room, so that the musician can set his volume (or even mix) himself, without having to tell the recording engineer, or go into the room, where the interfcae is located. Maybe the way you use products must not necessarily be the way “how people actually use the products”. I
Sorry, Puma0382 I think you misunderstood. I was talkin about myself, because I did not read it thoroughly enough (therefore the , and not the … Was not directed at you or anyone else.
What’s the lowest latency reverb out there if I wanted to add some in their cue mixes? Also will the channel strip compressor in C7 add any noticeable delay and if so is it better to add this as an insert or send?
No matter how low a buffer setting I set it to I still seem to get a kind of doubling effect when using room works. And that’s at 2ms. I am doing it by inserting on the channel not the input channel. Correct way to go about it?
Didn’ t we have that already? If you get a doubling / Echo effect, there is probably something wrong with your monitoring path - still…
Try using it as send and use constrain delay compensation…
Apart from that, you have a zero latency reverb in your interface, so why not use that (I know it’ s not what you asked - but curious anyway)
It accepts 5 stereo mixes, you can send 4 of them to any of the 6 phones outputs and blend in the 5th mix (maybe a stereo mix or the click) to each of them. Pretty perfect for most monitoring needs.
Talking about latency. Even taking a reverb out of the equation, at the lowest buffer 32, I notice when I switch from direct monitoring on (where the dry vocal sounds perfect) to direct monitoring off the vocal sound changes. I explained it wrong. Not so much a doubling effect, hard to explain. The sound in my cans just changes slightly and that’s at 1.5ms. Can anyone relate to this?
Are you maybe despite turning diect monitoring off monitoring via Hrasdwar and software? I don’ t know how the 816 works, but with the firefaces it is possible to have this constelkation, when set up incorrect.
Yes when I turn buffer up high I get big delays. These disappear when working on 32 buffer. However I still have that very slightly ‘muffled sock over the mic’ sound in the cans. Don’t get me wrong it’s definately workable but not quite as good as having direct monitoring.
That is one delay, after your “main signal”, I suppose?
That definitely sounds like comb filters that cancel the high frequency content, due to very short delay times (between direct monitoring and software monitoring). You´re quite certainly double monitoring.
Thats what I was getting at, If you are having two signals, a direct and the “through Cubase” signal occurring then something is wrong. At 32 or 64 buffers the delay between the two signals is small enough to not be heard as an echo, but as thinkingcap points out will cause “comb filtering” and a odd sound. Sounds like you need to eliminate the original direct sound, most likely due to a setting in the interfaces software.
Hey thanks a lot for that. Yes then it sounds a lot like double monitoring. I really haven’t a clue how to stop this double monitoring any ideas? Not the most technical sometimes. I’m sure this has happened to others?
Have just done some google search and it seems turning recording mode to ‘manual’ from tape machine is meant to stop double monitoring. I tried this but then without the monitoring button enabled I am now unable to hear any signal? And when i do click the monitoring button the combing effect is there present as before so no further forward?
when using MR816 WITH CUBASE its not possible to hear the input directly from hardware and input trough cubase at the same time (unless u uninstalled MR extantion driver). should be either direct from hardware when using Direct monitoring,
or only monitoring trough cubase when deactivate direct monitoring. so its kind of strange u can hear both.
just for testing, when cubase is running can u bring MR Editor up ? if yes MR extansion is not installed and u should turn the input fader on MR editor down to zero or mute them to hear only the input that processed trough cubase and not hearing both input signals (direct from hardware and from cubase)
