Setup Live : routing Cubase 13 on Tascam Model 12

Setup Tascam Model 12

Good morning,

I’m preparing my setup for a concert project, and I’m a little lost on how to use a Tascam Model 12 that a friend lent me.

The concept of Live:
I would be alone. My songs (playback) scroll on my Cubase Timeline while I play my instruments on top at the same time (guitar, piano, Minilogue xd and launch samples on the Maschine +).

The idea is to have 2 tracks on Cubase:

  • the 1st track contains my playbacks and will be output on the front.
  • the second track will only be output in my headphones and will also contain a metronome and countdowns that I have previously recorded in audio.

What I’m looking for is to route my PC in stereo to 2 slices of the Tascam (on which Cubase will run with the metronome and all that) and leave the other tracks in “Live” mode to which my instruments will be connected. But I can’t figure out if it’s possible to split the mixer this way or if I have to put the Tascam M12 in sound card mode and create all my configuration and routing in Cubase directly?

I hope that was clear enough. Thank you for your answers.

No idea about your Tascam mixer.

You could do this in Cubase by setting up a cue mix for your headphones in the control room and sending ‘track 2’ of your description to this. Then just adjust your routing so that ‘track 2’ doesn’t go to the Stereo Out of Cubase.

Looking at a picture of your mixer, I guess you could do basically the same thing on that by plugging your headphones into Aux 1, setting it to PFL, sending ‘track 2’ to Aux 1 and then pulling its fader all the way down so it isn’t going to the main output as well. Just a guess though.

Hi @Dunk79, yes I think it’s the good way to do, I will try it with the Tascam, thanks for your help

If you do have some time left before your gig have a look at Steinberg VST Live. This software is dedicated to work live on stage (unlike Cubase) but, of course, it will take some time to learn it and it costs a little fee.

Yes I already take a look at VST Live, but I already want to achieve a basic configuration that works with Cubase because I already know this DAW. I was interested in another software maybe later
