Setup Mode Clef and Transposition Overrides not working for me

I’m stumped. Clef and Transposition Overrides for the “Bass Clef Part” layout aren’t working. I can’t get it to change to bass clef. I have other scores that work fine. This score is in the typical “fakebook” format, where there is one player and a layout for each transposition key. The score is at the following Dropbox link.

Hi @Steve_225, you have inserted an explicit G clef: switch to Bass Clef Part, select the first clef and delete. Then you can apply the clef and transposition overrides:

Yes, thanks! I think it’s the pesky result from an MXL import. So now, how do I know it was there? Notice that there is no signpost shown for the explicit Clef, nor for the key signature - another puzzlement. Why not at least a signpost for the key?

When I open your file, it opens with signposts turned off. If you turn them on, you’ll see them at least for the key sig. Signposts for explicit clefs (and/or local clefs, local time sigs) have been requested before on the forum. In the meantime, if you can select a clef (and it turns orange) it’s an explicit one.

That’s curious. I have signposts on too but still don’t have a key signpost. It displays only the time signature and a bunch of system break signposts. Thanks for the advice on the clef!

Ah - I didn’t look carefully enough (I simply assumed that the fact that they were turned off completely was the culprit). The fact that no key signature signpost is showing is probably caused by the fact that there are no transposing instruments in your full score layout. It appears when you add a Bb instrument (which will end up with no accidentals):

The reasoning behind this, I assume, is that signposts according to their definition in the manual only show things “that cannot be seen”. Even though that doesn’t apply to some signposts that show up for visibile items, I think it still holds for the key sig ones.

If I’m not correct in my assumptions then I’ll probably be corrected soon enough. :grimacing:

That’s sound reasoning to me, but how do I know whether I assigned Bb major or G minor? The “Used in This Flow” panel doesn’t show me (and as we have decided there is no signpost). I ask because I assume that which key I assign will make a difference somewhere down the road.

Oh, wait a minute. It displays at the bottom when I click on the key signature:
