Sharing Dorico File problems

I have been working with another person on a project. He sends me his Dorico file which I can open just fine. When I work on the file and send it back to him, he tells me that the file is not recognized by dorico. Is there a special way to save a Dorico project to be worked on between different computers?

Thanks for any suggestions
Richard

What exact message does he get when he opens it?

What platform/OS are you both on?

What version of Dorico are you both using?

Is the filename reasonably short and limited to alphanumeric characters?

Does it have “.dorico” on the end?

I will check out all of what you asked and see what I can get to further clarify. Thanks for the quick response.

As it turns out (and I hope this is the solution), I updated Dorico the other day using the Steinberg Download Assistant. The other person has not done that and got a message that said the file he was trying to open was done on a newer version of Dorico. I will let you know the final result when both Doricos and running the same version!

Even with that message, Dorico should still open the file. However, any new features used in the newer Dorico version will not show in the older version as the older version has no idea what that saved information is.

If no newer features are used in the new Dorico, there’s shouldn’t be any issues in the older Dorico, apart from the warning message.

… and indeed won’t survive in the file when saved on the older app (because Dorico doesn’t save features from the future!).
