Short Harmonics In BBC Core

Has anyone figured out how to invoke the “short harmonics” keyswitch in BBC Core in an expression map, meaning for it actually play?

Thank you in advance.

Are you having trouble obtaining short harmonics with the expression map named BBCSO Core Strings? In my copy of this expression map, the base switches named Long harmonics and Short harmonics are both associated with the playback technique Natural harmonic 1. The base switch Short harmonics includes the condition Note Length <= Short, but the base switch Long harmonics has no condition, which is why the base switch Short harmonics is not always used when it should be. This problem can be fixed by adding the condition Note Length >= Medium to the base switch Long harmonics.

Thank you John, very much!

I’ve spent a lot of time to no avail trying to get it to work. I’m looking to achieve a sound on the order of that distinctive passage in Stravinsky’s Rite Of Spring and long harmonics won’t do it.

I’ll implement your method tomorrow and post back. Can’t wait!

Much appreciated

Chuck

@johnkprice It works! What I did was in Edit Playback Techniques I duplicated the Harmonic (o) and and assigned Harmonic (o) (2) to Short Harmonic 2. I used a popover “o2” to trigger the short.

The Short Harmonic is louder than the Long Harmonic but that’s how the library is, so it’ll be key editor to unify both amplitudes in score.

I assume you must have done the same process, John.

Thanks again,

Chuck
