Short names for players (not instruments)

A problem I don’t think I’ve experienced previously. (Latest version Dorico Pro)

I have a couple of percussionists each holding a number of instruments. In setup mode I have renamed the players holding all the various instruments Percussion 1 and Percussion 2.

On the first system all is good - the staff labels read Percussion 1 and Percussion 2. On subsequent systems I’m seeing a list of all the instruments assigned to each player (in abbreviated form) . According to my settings I should be seeing the abbreviated form of the term Percussion.

It’s as if the short name for ‘percussion’ is a list of all the instruments held by that player!

Oddly - even if I wanted that - I can’t see an option to choose it.

In any case, is there a place where you can change/edit the short version of a player name (and I mean a player name not an instrument name)

Yes, there is: right-click on the player in the Players panel, and choose Rename Player, which will show a dialog in which you can specify the full and short names.
