I’m using a macbook pro with wireless small keyboard. On my other mac the * is the record button. I can map my own shortcuts for the smaller keyboard,can anybody advice me if there is an standard in shortcuts for ‘small’ keyboards?

No, there is no standard. You can choose whatever you want to. If you already know the * KeyCommand, you can assign the * on the non-numeric keyboard, i.e. 8 actually. Or you can make any modifier+R combination.
