I need to notate a few bars with three repeated notes per crotchet (i.e. triplet subdivisions), similar to the example at the foot of this post, but with a “3” placed above each note and a single line through the stem.
I came across a forum post from 2018 requesting this functionality, but I’m not sure whether it has since been implemented. I’ve searched the manual but couldn’t find any reference to it, but perhaps I’m just using the wrong search terms.
Yes, I agree, the result would look much better if the tuplet number were centred on the stem.
Unless I’m mistaken, there’s no straightforward way to apply Vadian’s method to a group of notes; each one has to be adjusted individually. As you suggested, a simple property switch would be the ideal solution. Still, it’s good that Dorico at plays back the triplet figure correctly.
You can certainly use this method when you’re entering a group of notes. If you’re trying to transform a group of notes, what are you starting with? Just a sequence of quarter notes? Can you share a screenshot?
I’m starting with the notes shown in my first post.
I’ve tried selecting a group of notes, but that doesn’t transform them all into triplets. I’ve also tried using R to repeat a modified note, but that doesn’t preserve the triplet grouping. I suspect there’s a modifier key I need to use…?
I don’t know exactly what this means, but if you are willing to play the notes again you can copy a group of notes (including the 3s !). Then select the first note, press SHIFT N then L for lock duration and play the notes.
It does if you select the tuplet number along with the note. This could be a quick way of doing this: repeat one tuplet some number of times and then go through and repitch as needed.
There’s probably some way to modify your existing example as a group, but offhand I can’t figure it out.
Thank you Stefan and Aaron for your help. So pleased to be reminded of lock duration functionality and also that I should have selected the triplet number
