Show divisi labels in strings

I cannot figure out how to label the start of a divisi or unisono in the strings. Do you have to create two staves and then condense those staves in another layout? I just want to show div. and unis. in one stave.

Walter, there is some good information on this in the manual. If you like to have a look there:

If you plan to divide a string section but do not need separate staves, then it is acceptable simply to write both parts on a single staff (using one voice or two) and then simply mark the section with a playing technique or shift-x text that says div.

Absolutely correct. I always do this in Ravel’s scores, where this sort of division is common; the section then sorts itself out to allocate the parts.

And I tend to use a player technique (created previously), which I find more practical than a text (Shift-X)
