What’s the best way for me to have a guitar part that only shows tab when it’s needed. (i.e. I’d like to be able to hide the tablature most of the time, but have it present when absolutely necessary).

My workaround is to have a second player displaying only tabs. Into this player, I copy the notation, this also enables me to get rid of unnecessary thing like slurs, articulations, accents and the like.
Using an extra player, I can now determine exactly where tab is needed and have it display using the staff visibility mechanism.
Obviously, this can show or hide tab only per staff, but it’s better than nothing
The team is aware of various feature requests concerning the relation between tab and notation made over the years, and will act “in the fullness of time”…
