Showing empty staff in a two-stave percussion kit

Hi,
I need the snare drum staff (top five-line staff) to show on the first two lines here. (Each five-line staff is a separate percussion kit.)

I’ve set Hide Empty Staves to Never; I’ve tried to create a manual visibility change, but it doesn’t show both staves in that dialog. Could someone please point out what I must be missing? Thank you very much!

I’d also like the “cresc.----” during the snare drum roll to continue all the way through the intervening dynamics (without having to restate the “cresc.” every time), but it doesn’t look like that’s possible. If it is I’d appreciate learning that too!

Does this fix it?

This is assuming that your kit and snare are two different instruments held by the same Player. Is this the case?

Hi Daniel,
Thanks — yes, the kit with the snare and the kit with the bass drum and cymbals are two different instruments held by the same Player, but unfortunately changing the instrument change option didn’t fix it.

I think this is only possible using hairpins (Engraving options>Dynamics>Gradual dynamics)

I think another option is to add a Chord Symbol region into the Snare staff anywhere that it has no music.

A long gradual dynamic that is hidden may also do this job but I can’t test it right now.

Yes, I think that’s right. I ended up using a hairpin.

The part I’m transcribing is a hand-copied part — amazing how those options are pretty unlimited.

The Chord Symbol region worked — thanks so much!!
