I’m new to Dorico (4 weeks). I followed instructions on how to put a piano cue, which is in rhythmic/slash notation, into a drum part. Only some of the cues are showing up and I can figure out why. See attached screenshot. I really appreciate some help with this! Thank you in advance
Welcome to the forum @jazztao!
It will be easier to understand what’s going on if you share your file (or just this part of it).
From the screenshot, it seems like in the second system, a part of the cue is hidden. Try to select the signpost “Piano (a)”, and look at the Properties Panel: there could be a “Hide” button enabled. If so, disable it.
For the first system, try to select the only cue note. You should see two handles (small circles) on both side of the cue. Try to drag the left one to the left (up to the beginning of bar 63), and the right one to the right (up to the end of bar 66). Maybe the missing cues will appear.
Hi @charles_piano
Thank you so much for your quick response. I’m attaching the Dorico file. I tried what you suggested but only part o of the cue shows up on the target staff (drums). Again I am attempting to get this rhythmic notation piano cue into the drum part at measure 63 thru 71
Thanks for any help you can provide.

ALONE TOGETHER Ver 4.dorico (1.68 MB)
This is very weird.
I thought I found a solution but I can’t reproduce the result.
It looks as though it’s something to do with having more than one note in the slash voice.
Reinput the slashed voice rhythm using only one note.
or
Filter the slash voice (which will select all the notes in the chords behind the scenes), filter a note (Top, Second..Bottom etc), and then copy/paste over the top. This would at least keep a sensible note in relation to the harmony and without having to enter anything again.
I tried reducing the piano part to one note and then initiating the cue but it still didn’t work. I also tried getting rid of the ties and that didn’t make any difference either. I’m very puzzled. There are lot of notes under the slashes in the drum part…do you think that might be causing an issue?
Thank you for the file, @jazztao
Well, it’s really hard to understand. After a few trials, it appears that if you change the voice to a normal voice in the piano part, the cues appear correctly (but with normal noteheads).
And once you put a slash voice again, either 1, 2, 3 or new, just a few notes take part of the cue, not always the same.
I couldn’t find a solution except copy/paste right hand to left hand, switch left hand notes to normal voice, create the cue from the left hand, suppress playback for the bottom staff, and keep it hidden from this page.
And also this in Engraving Options:
It’s not very elegant and hopefully someone will come up with a better solution, but at least it works…

No.
I’m not sue why my procedure isn’t working for you. Sorry!
@charles_piano and DanielMusMurray, I really appreciate all the help I’m getting on this but unfortunately I haven’t been able to successfully replicate what you are suggesting. I just tried doing what charles piano suggested but, again it only showed one dotted half note cue. The only part that I’m unsure of is where you say “switch the left hand to normal voice”. I assume "normal voice’ means switch the note appearance so that they are normal notation, not slash notation? If so, I did that, copied the voicings into Bass Clef/ LH piano, now appearing as conventional notes, the then I set up the cue to copy from LH piano to the drum part but unfortunately it didn’t work and all I got was one dotted half note in a rhythm notation cue. I notice that the staff got extended and created a collision with the staff below too. I have software which allows me to film my desktop showing exactly what I’m seeing, so I film my desktop as I took each step but the forum doesn’t allow for links I guess because that email/post was rejected. I’m at my wit’s end. Maybe I should try Dorico customer support? I see that you’ve accomplished what I want to do but somehow it’s just not working for me. BTW if you still have it could you send back the file which you worked on so that I could try opening it and see if it executes on my system? Thanks in advance
Or, if seeing my desktop would help, maybe I could attach the film of my desktop as a .mov file?
The file is at the bottom of my previous post, just under the last screenshot
Here is what I did (actually you don’t have to change LH’s voice, it appears directly as conventional notes, sorry for the confusion. But you might need to drag the cue’s handle to the right, as I do in the video)
And the file again:

And once again: there could be some better/smarter solutions!
And just another idea: if you want a bottom empty piano staff to appear in the score on this page, you can add a 3d bottom staff to these bars. Since the middle one is hidden, you’ll get a normal 2-staff system as it was in your original file.
Here is the file with the bottom staff:
Thanks a million…your file works so I’m just using that now as I continue to compose. I’ll still try to figure out why I wasn’t able to execute your solution on my system but having your fixed file allows me to carry on working…much appreciated!
@charles__piano, I was able to replicate what you did when experimenting with other cues for the drum part. However I have now encounted a problem trying to do create cues for pitch instrument parts, in this case for the saxophone part. When I cue from either piano staff (RH or LH) as the source, the cue goes into target staff (in this case saxophone) displacing the melody notes assigned to the player, instead of appearing above the staff as rhythmic notation. Then, at that point , I don’t seem to be able to select those cue notes and manipulate them further.. I can only select and manipulate the melody notes from the original saxophone chart. How do I get the cue to appear above the saxophone part, or any pitch instrument part, as rhythmic notation? I’ve included a 20 second video showing what I’m doing and seeing. I have a feeling there is just some setting I need to apply but can’t figure it out. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
that worked perfectly…thank you so much!
