I’m not sure exactly when this behavior changed, but as someone who recently upgraded from Cubase 12 to Cubase 15, I noticed that the usability of MediaBay — one of Cubase’s best features — has taken a big step backward.
In real music production, it’s super important to be able to move quickly between the three main areas of MediaBay — the File Browser, Search Form, and Results — using just the keyboard. But in Cubase 15, this core functionality seems to be lost.
Here are some of the really handy keyboard operations that worked perfectly in Cubase 12 but no longer work in Cubase 15:
- Moving focus between the File Browser and the Results pane (both directions) using the Tab key, and navigating the list with the arrow keys.
- Moving focus from the Search Form to the Results pane using the Tab key.
- Typing a keyword in the Search Form, pressing Enter to show the Results, auditioning a few samples, then pressing Ctrl+F again to change the keyword and search again.
At this point, it feels impossible to browse MediaBay smoothly using only the keyboard like we could in Cubase 12.
If possible, I’d love to see the previous keyboard navigation behavior brought back in a future update.
