Simple way of returning to previously selected location

I could be wrong but as far as I know, there is no simple way in Dorico to go back to the previously selected note for changing the playback position. I am forever going back to a previous section in a project to check something for further development and I’d like to be able to quickly switch between two (or even more) selected positions. Of course you can sometimes use Undo for this but it’s not much use if you’ve made some edit in the meantime. I’d be surprised if I’m the only person who would like to have at least two (and ideally perhaps several) playback positions in temporary memory to quickly navigate to in the project through a simple key shortcut or Jumpbar.

Not to discourage your feature request, but ideas for now in case you didn’t know:

  • If you have rehearsal marks, you can select one and arrow left to select the previous one. The same works with markers, tempo marks, dynamics, etc.
  • I find Go To is very efficient. ⌘G, bar #, Enter. The Flow selector in the dialog is also accessible by keyboard.
  • The Jump Bar also has thorough Go To functionality

thanks for your suggestions Mark, but none of these are what I’m looking for. The problem with selecting a bar to go to is – quite apart from looking it up and keeping in mind which one it is – is that it’s several keystrokes and even then the bar is not selected for playback so you have to click there anyway to select the starting point. It makes little difference if that is done via the Jump Bar or CTRL+G. And certainly I don’t want to litter the score with temporary rehearsal marks. It’s rarely that an existing rehearsal mark will exactly correspond to the bar I want to listen to.

Well, try timecode markers? You can put them on any beat, delete them anytime, and select them all for deletion with Select More.

even then the bar is not selected for playback

When you do the left-arrow trick, you can hit P to play from the selection.

I’d certainly welcome DAW-style locators and a location toggle.

Might not suit you, but a workaround I was using a few days ago was Vertical Split and de-selecting follow playhead.

yes, I was also thinking of Cubase-style locators which it itself would be a huge improvement
