Single line percussion note

Percussion bafflement again from newbie.

I have a side drum in NotePerformer using NP Orch percussion map and single line percussion. The (correct) sound that I want is on D2 midi note 38 but the note in my score will only play C-1, a low conga, regardless of which pitch I entered. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try to reapply the Noteperformer Playback template?

Jesper

Just tried it, no change. But thanks!

Could you share the file? Did you try to enter the notes with y on the computer keyboard? Also check Preferences->Note Input and Editing->Percussion Input.

Jesper

I made a little one with Halion with the same results, the original is a big orchestra.

I also have no idea why it changed from Side drum to side stick, a switch set somewhere?

Preferences - percussion input ok.

Try now, I changed from side drum to snare drum. And to Noteperformer.

The side stick is under Percussion Playing Techniques. You swich technique on a note with alt/opt+shift+up/down arrows or just alt/opt before you input notes.

Well thank you, that certainly sounds like a snare drum! Is it just in the name? I have a bass drum too that sounds like falling down stairs. I shall look further. Re side stick I must have triggered the PT by mistake somehow. Thanks again, I’m very much enjoying Dorico after 40 years of Finale, I shall persevere thanks to this great forum!

I guess Noteperformer doesn’t know the term side drum, and plays a conga sound instead. Note that the Bass drum can be a drum kit one also.

Here’s with a bass drum also.

Yes, thank you, the bass drum seemed to have sorted itself out. Interestingly Halion doesn’t know what a side drum is either.

John

Isn’t it a very British term used in marching percussion?

Jesper

Probably. I’m a keyboard player so not given to too much marching :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi @jpj2k, please consider giving the solution checkmark to one of the useful replies by @jesele (and not to your own reply), so other user can find the answers faster. Thank you.

Ok no problem. J
