Sizing Applies Time Stretch no longer appears in DOP
This issue has been present since Nuendo 14 and is still present in Nuendo 15.0.30.
In Nuendo 13, using the mouse tool “Sizing Applies Time Stretch” created a Time Stretch entry in Direct Offline Processing (DOP).
Since Nuendo 14, stretching an event with this mouse tool no longer creates any entry in DOP. The operation can only be reverted through the standard Undo History.
This is problematic because the decision to remove or change the stretch may come much later in the editing process. By then, many subsequent edits may have been made, making Undo impractical. In Nuendo 13, the DOP entry allowed the stretch to be removed or changed at any time without affecting later work.
We have tested this on four different computers with different system configurations (M2 Ultra Mac, M5 Max Mac, Intel Mac, PC), and the behavior is the same on all of them.
The manual command Audio → Processes → Time Stretch still creates a DOP entry correctly, so the issue appears to be specific to “Sizing Applies Time Stretch”.
Steps to reproduce:
Select an audio event.
Select “Sizing Applies Time Stretch” from the sizing tool menu using the default key command Num 1.
Resize the event with the mouse to apply time stretching.
Open Direct Offline Processing.
Result:
No Time Stretch process is shown in DOP.
Expected:
The Time Stretch process should appear in DOP, as it did in Nuendo 13.
Are you using MacOS?. Since Apple Silicon support from N14, DOP does not run as before. If you switch to “Rosetta mode” (Intel emulation) you’ll recover the function. For me is extremely necessary the MPEX algorithm to work with voice audio files, so I keep in Rosetta mode.
I found out that MPEX is not supported on Apple Silicon processors. I’m afraid that Steinberg won’t invest money and time in a native version (it was made by Prosonic/Zynaptiq for Steinberg only). Anyway, it would be great to get back the possibility to choose the algorithm for “Sizing Applies Time Stretch” in settings and solve the DOP history problem.
The problem is that Steinberg doesn’t own MPEX. It was created by Prosoniq and I think they don’t exist anymore.
When N14 was released, you could read at Steinberg notes that MPEX would be supported by Apple Silicon in a near future, but now directly they’ve changed to say it is not supported.
I don’t know any other time stretch algorithm with Que high quality results of MPEX.
My problem is that we can talk about it here, but Steinberg doesn’t give a fcuk.
I’m in the same situation. I chose Nuendo as my main DAW, and I do more than 400 projects a year. Every detail matters because it can break my workflow.
And now my workflow is broken, and nobody at Steinberg takes care of it.
Btw. Prosoniq was bought by Zynaptiq, and they still exist. I wrote to them and asked if there is any possibility of bringing MPEX to Apple Silicon. I will post the answer when I get it.
Oh, it’s a beginning. It would be wonderful to get support from Zynaptic.
And talking about this, I don’t know any other way to convert 24fps to 23,98fps soundtracks of films than MPEX. In a couple of MacOs versions Rosetta will disappear. I hope Steinberg will do something.
why do you think Steinberg doesn’t care? We have a dedicated Bug Reporting thread. Once this bug is confirmed by others, simply but it in there and we will have a look.
