I am a new member here and this is my first post. I apologize in advance for any lack of clarity. I don’t know yet how to insert music lines, so I’ll have to describe my issue.
These are the sections of my piece: Verse with 1st, 2nd and 3rd endings, all of which contain no repeats; Trio 1; Trio 2.
This is what I want to achieve: Verse, 1st ending jumping to Trio 1, back to Verse with 2nd ending jumping to Trio 2, back to Verse with 3rd ending as Fine.
If possible, I would like this to be clear in print, and have a correct playback.
No doubt others can give you more specific thoughts on the challenge you face. In the meantime, here is an explanation what a new member of the forum needs to do to post images and access other forum features.
Verse is just text. to Trio 1 is a D.S. with custom text. to Trio 2 is a D.S. with marker index 2 and custom text. Trio 1 is a Segno with custom text. Trio 2 is a Segno with marker index 2 and custom text. Because the Fine and the first Segno are anchored at the same place, the Fine is created at a different rhythmic position and moved to the end of the third ending.
Thank you for such a quick reply. I’m having trouble finding the actual mouse selections and key strokes to achieve your example. Would it be possible for you to list the actions needed from the beginning through the D.C. of Trio 1? Thanks again in advance.
The following steps create a project with the same playback sequence as the example in post #3 but do not attempt to replicate its appearance:
Start Dorico. From the hub, execute File > New.
Click on Add Single Player. In the instrument picker, type Treble staff Return.
Execute Window > Write. Then execute Window > Show Lower Zone.
Click on the quarter rest and type Shift-M 2/4 Return. Then type Shift-B 14 Return.
Click on the rest in bar 5 and type Shift-R end Return. Then click on the end repeat barline and type Shift-B double Return.
Type Shift-R ds Return. Activate the Custom text property and type to Trio 1Return.
Click on the rest in bar 6 and type Shift-R add Return. Then click on the end repeat barline and type Shift-B double Return.
Type Shift-R ds Return. Activate the Marker index property and type 2 Return. Then activate the Custom text property and type to Trio 2Return.
Click on the barline after bar 7 and type Shift-B final Return. Then type Shift-R fine Return.
Click on the rest in bar 9 and type Shift-R segno Return. Activate the Custom text property and type Trio 1Return. Then press Alt/Opt-Left Arrow four times.
Click on the barline after bar 11 and type Shift-B double Return. Then press Shift-R dc Return.
Click on the rest in bar 12 and type Shift-R segno Return. Activate the Marker index property and type 2 Return. Then activate the Custom text property and type Trio 2Return.
Click on the last barline and type Shift-B double Return. Then press Shift-R dcaf Return.
Do you mean you have a 2-bar introduction before the verse, so the D.C. and D.C. al Fine at the ends of the trios need to be replaced by D.S. and D.S. al Fine?

Because the Fine and the second Segno are anchored at the beginning of the first trio, one of them must be created at a different rhythmic position and moved to the correct position.
To create the repeat with first and second endings in each trio, select the bars which should go between the start and end repeat barlines and type Shift-B start Return. Then select the bar(s) which should go in the first ending and type Shift-R end Return.
If system breaks are added to make each trio start at the beginning of a system, you can select each start repeat barline and use the property Barline at end of system to specify what type of barline should appear at the end of the previous system.
