SL12 Bugs with Unmix Noisy Speech

I’ve incorporated Unmix Noisy Speech into my dialogue editing workflow and have run into a few bugs,

  1. Once I unmix, I usually try to clean up any speech accidentally detected in the ‘Noise’ layer, using the ‘Cut to’ function after selecting the parts. However, sometimes it doesn’t complete the operation and leaves a ‘light green’ selection behind.

Sometimes, undoing and redoing works and other times, it doesn’t. Is this some kind of bug?

  1. Once, the cleanup is done, I drag the ‘Speech’ and ‘Noise’ layers out as new pre-labelled tracks. This mostly works correctly, but after editing for a while, it starts to flip the channels. Speech layer to my Noise track and Noise to the Speech track.

  2. As I move scene by scene, I always make the ARA extension permanent. I don’t trust ARA to recall correctly and have suffered due to the bugs previously. This is also to keep the ‘Layers’ panel on the side empty, with only the event I’m working with. However, after editing for a bit, I start seeing some previous ‘layers’ in the panel, which I can’t seem to right-click and delete. Nor can I locate which section it is. I think I remember this happening in previous versions as well.

Anyone know how to fix these issues? :downcast_face_with_sweat:

Hey just to say that I tried SL12 and got this “old layers” bug as well, but since I have no time for proper testing or reporting right now, I simply went back to SL11 for the time being.
I’m on an i712700, Win11 (up-to-date), Nuendo 14.0.32.
I hope this gets sorted out!

Hey - @Splaaat and @henrique_staino

I noticed in another thread that Robin has made available an updated ‘pre-release’ or ‘test’ version that may address specific ARA related issues. Maybe, if you’re interested, you might like to try it too.?

SL 12.0.0 installer needed - SpectraLayers - Steinberg Forums

Obviously, test/work on backup copies of your projects; and make sure you have your official v12.0.10 installer safe and secure somewhere too so you can reinstall that, if things don’t work out (official releases always downloadable on the Steinberg SDA as well of course).

And goes without saying, as a ‘pre-release/beta/test edition’ this is not be risk free.!

Just saying…

Thanks for sharing this. Will see if I have time to test this. A bit risky to try this on a tight deadline.

My bigger issue is N14 getting really sluggish while editing a lot of clips.
