Slash chords not in quarters

Hi,

In the piano part of my ballad, I’d like to put two half notes slashes with stems while having Dorico playback the chords that I wrote there. So add a slash region but not of quarter notes but halves, just one bar. Is that possible? I see the “with stems” in the properties panel, and that is really nice, so now I only need two half notes in sread of 4 quarter.

I think what you need to do is change those chords into a Slash Voice rather than use a Slash Region. What this means is that Dorico will replace whatever note or chord you have with a rhythmic slash.

Thanks! That works most of the time. Now I’d like to remove these rests:

Making progress, but I keep not understanding this whole voice-thing.

I did this (retracting the region:

And than I multiple ways to change the first note also in a slash voice, but it keeps getting this way:

Is it impossible to make the whole bar in one voice?

Edit>Remove rests

A slash voice is fundamentally different from a normal voice, but if you remove the redundant rests, you won’t notice the difference.

You can use notes and slashes in one voice; simply select the note ( maybe on the middle B line…) and change the notehead to slashes ( with or without stem), by rightclicking - notehead - change notehead - slash notehead.

I use this al the time, and it avoids all these unnecessary rests.

Yes! I figured it out! I shouldn’t make it a new slash coiice, but make into upstem slash voice 1 (or whatever the rest of the bar is. The notehead change option is sometimes useful, but in this case, I want to let Dorico play the chords I’ve written out, and changing noteheads gives me chords of slashed notes. I thing I understand a bit how this works now…
