Hello. I have an issue with slash notation. I select a region, go to the repeats panel, select “Create Slash Region”, and the region appears in the expected greenish shadow, but no slashes appear. I expect it might be a font issue. I’m using the Finale Jazz Font, which I think looks pretty good for lead sheets. Any ideas?
Check that you don’t have any overrides under Library→Notehead Sets→Slashes. Otherwise, could you upload the file?

Well, after posting I followed up on my hunch that the problem was font-related and changed the default music font to Bravura, where the slashes suddenly appeared. I then changed back to Finale Jazz, and there they were! Why they didn’t appear before the switcheroo I have no idea. I could dig deeper to better understand what’s going on, but I’m following the time-honored maxim, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
But, while I’m here, I would like to know if it’s possible to begin a slash region from a measure that begins with a note tied over from the previous measure. I’d like to tie into the slash region. So far I can’t manage to do that.
Use an l.v. tie from the Properties panel.
There is no l.v. command available in the Properties panel for the tie shown above. I’d like it to tie into the slash region.
That’s perfect, Derrek! Thanks. But why would they put an lv tie under “notes and rests” and not “ties”? The logic sometimes escapes me.
Initially the l.v. option just added an “l.v.” above the notes. Changing it into the tie symbol was a later improvement. And of course the l.v. has only one coinnecting point, at the notehead, which makes it somewhat different than a tie.
Of course no one knows how much the team discussed this during their planning stages before they put the option in the Properties panel.
(Which is a lengthy way, I suppose, of saying, “I don’t know.”
