Factory settings. As you see, the third slur points to the wrong direction – is there any setting that could solve this, and still not distort the other slurs in the image?
My guess is that this happens because the slur endpoint y-pos is calculated from the stem end, not the top of the notehead.
[edit: probably I have to change settings for the stem lengths]
If you like that the tip of the flag vertically touches the line it might be ok. Otherwise I’d keep the default and adjust the slur in Engrave Mode. There is no escaping the Engrave Mode when it comes to premium output. Dorico is truly excellent “by default” but Engrave Mode, until Dorico excels even more by default, like considering note heads in a future version, is there for a reason.
I tried a sample, adjusted the first slur in Engrave Mode, then switched back to Write Mode and ALT-CLICKed the 2nd Bb. The copied slur does not retain its shape because one ends on a flag and the other on a beam. I guess it might be on the ‘to do list’ for a future version, to consider the note head instead of the stem.
There might have been a ‘house style’ focused on the stem side that served as the template for Dorico at the start of development. I know too little about the history of notation to be certain.
For the left one the ‘yellow arrows’ should originate from the center (or top/bottom) of the note head with ‘Vertical offset from center[top/bottom] of notehead: ____ spaces’.
Hopefully in a future version. Meanwhile: Engrave Mode.
I didn’t edit the shapes of the two slurs, which follow my default slur settings exactly. I did move them vertically so that they were closer to the noteheads since I don’t know a setting that would do that automatically.
