I am attempting to make a measure that looks like the first pic. I can get Dorico to the point of the second picture, but I cannot figure out how to get the tie (or slur) on the bottom voice. Because I technically have two voices on the first note, and only one voice on the second note, it will not allow me to tie it. If I add a note to the lower voice and try to get the stem to flip (so there is only one stem on the second note) I get the third picture.
How do I keep the stems in the correct order, and have a tie (or slur) connect the two. I have tried hiding, I have tried changing the scale, etc.
This is a common notation in hymnals, so I would think that Dorico can definitely do it!
EDIT: This assumes your notes are in one voice. (I’m not sure why, in your example you’d need the lower notes in a different voice).
Select where you want the slur to be. Press S. Select it again, Press S again. Then press F to flip the latest slur. Use Engraving mode if you need to adjust the start/end points of the slur.
Thank you. It appears there are multiple ways to skin this cat which, though not immediately apparent, are not all that obtuse if one just takes a step back and thinks about the options for OTHER ways to logically achieve the final result. (I will now try to do something to make myself feel a bit less obtuse.)
In my defense, When you do the regular “s” to apply a slur, it does apply it to notes in stem up voice AND stem down voice. It did not occur to me that you could just delete the stem down voice slur and flip the stem up voice slur. (This is logical, when you step back and think!)
It’s worthwhile experimenting to see how this works… You can both slur and tie notes across/between different voices if you explicitly select (ctrl-click) the start and end notes.
