Small cosmetic type request - MacOS

Sorry, I’m might be anal about it but, why is Steinberg Download Assistance app icon is not in line with all other Steinberg products?
It’s big and square unlike all other apps…

Can you please adjust the wording of your post?

It depends on the app. TouchDesigner has a large format icon too, as does Apple’s own Automator app icon (if you choose that icon for compiled workflows). I would suggest that rather than asking the dev to change their icon, you just change it yourself. You’re on a Mac after all, and you have full control what icons you want any app to have.

I agree with the original poster. Both the Steinberg Download Assistant and the Library Manager, as well as, for example, Groove Agent, have unusual app icons on macOS that do not conform to the Human Interface Guidelines and visually stand out in an odd way. A “manual” adjustment by selecting an alternative icon, for example one created by the user, is possible but must be reapplied after every update. In my opinion, this should be addressed directly by Steinberg, especially for the apps that are installed alongside purchases and downloads like Dorico. The icon is already appropriate for the Activation Manager, as well as for Halion Sonic.

Yeah they’re basically ‘old style’ Mac icons still. Halion finally got its updated iOS-ish icon with the 7 update I believe. Groove Agent still has an older one, but I assume that comes with v6 when it drops. The SDA and library manager are probably very low hanging fruit on the big totem pole of things.

Remember ‘back in the day’ the skeuomorphic stuff everywhere, then around Leopard/Lion things became round buttons, later the big square flat icons. Around Catalina, MacOS started looking more in line with iOS. I still have a few from each era hanging around in the dock making things look odd.

Even Apple was pretty slow in keeping up with their own interface guidelines. Look how long things like the Calendar/Contacts/Mail/etc stayed skeuomorphic while stuff like Safari, the System Settings, etc, turned into the round icons, and later the squares, and now the iOS type..

Apple yesterday unveiled an entirely new design language called Liquid Glass, which also brings dynamic changes to app icons—they now adapt their appearance based on light mode, dark mode, and tinted settings, similar to what’s seen in iOS. Alongside this, Apple introduced a new tool specifically designed to help developers create app icons that align with this updated visual style.

iOS icons don’t work here. My iPad Pro updated and all the icons went black, but my iPhone still has not done it despite having it set for it since the OS came out and several updates later.

I wouldn’t put too much faith in those icons new abilities just yet heh.
