I was wondering if some customization could potentially be added to the Show cues setting in Layout Options.
In the arrangement I’m currently working on, I have some vocals for instrument players to sing, with a separate layout specifically dedicated to vocalists. I included cues for the instruments and vocals, and they’re both up showing in the instrumental layouts:
I know that I can go through each part score and adjust the manual staff visibility, but I was wondering if adding a list of players below Show cues would be possible, making it so you could show or hide cues with specific players in each layout:
I’m not sure I understand. I think you have one player holding a flute and a piccolo, and a layout for that player. Is that right?
Then it looks like you added a violin cue to both the flute and piccolo, so both staves are showing up in the layout. Why not add the cue to just one of the instruments? Then the layout will only show one staff.
No, I’m adding vocals to the flute & piccolo part. The top staff is flute & piccolo, and the bottom staff is vocals. Both the vocals score and the flute & picc. score have cues. I want to print the vocals part into the flute & picc. part without the vocals’ cue showing up.
So you have a player with a flute and a piccolo, and another player with vocals … and then a layout which shows the flute player and the vocals player?
Okay, so the violin cue is in the vocals player, because you want the cue to show in the vocals layout. And the cue is also in the flute player. But in the flute/vocals layout, you only want to see the cue once.
Do you need to have the cue in the flute player? That is, are you also making a layout with just the flute player and not the vocals player? If so, then I think you’re probably stuck with manual staff visibility, as you’re doing now.
I understand the feature you’re asking for, but this seems to me like an edge case.
Yes, I’m doing this for basically all the instrumentalists in my arrangement! And I added this cue because the flute player is resting for a lengthy amount of time.
If this is an edge case, fair enough, but I thought it was worth sharing to see how helpful it would be for others.
If you set the Layout option to hide empty staves, then hiding the cue will empty the stave and it will be hidden. I don’t think there would be a need to use manual staff visibility.
Right – my point was that you can either go through and hide the cues you don’t want displayed, or you can manually hide the staves with those cues (which is what the OP was doing initially). It’s not clear which would be less work.
