Snapshot like ability for track versions

Having recently switched to Cubase, I was a bit doubtful about track versions.

However, I find myself using them quite a bit.

The problem I have, is that (in my use case), I quickly lose track of the combination of track versions I want to go together.

What would be great, would be a Snapshot like capability that exists for the Mix Console, that lets me create configurations and do comparisons.

A Track version snapshot would be a point in time configuration of the track versions that I want to go together. I can capture, go back, do comparisons, etc, etc. I imagine the logic would be pretty similar to the Mix Console snapshots.

This type of functionality is starting to get into the “arrangement” territory. Whereas the current Arranger track is a vertical slice of the music, the Track Snapshots would be a horizontal slice.

Not part of this feature request, but in my mind, if these 2 things could be linked somehow in future, then you would have a true and very powerful arrangement capability.

You can select multiple tracks and create a common track version for them. Since track versions come with an ID you can later pick the version with the same ID for the tracks.

Hope, that helps already.

Hi Johnny,

Thanks for the link, much appreciated!

An “interesting” implementation by Steinberg, nevertheless, it solves my immediate problem.

Thanks again!

The feature is really aimed at editing multi-mic recordings. You can do a different recording on the same tracks by creating a new track version. Just be aware that VST automation is not covered by track versions (which to me always is a bit of a bummer).
