Snare Drum beat divisions

Hello, I have a Snare Drum/Bass Drum percussion part in a Dorico score that I am trying to match to a Sibelius part.

Here is the current Dorico part:

and below is the original part from Sibelius that I need to match:

Essentially, how do I get the rhythm on bts. 2-4 to show as half-note (with tremolo) tied to an eighth/two sixteenths rather than the current quarter tied to a dotted quarter?

Thank you in advance.

I couldn’t find an engraving setting that controls a rhythm like this, which means you’ll probably have to use Force Duration.

If you have multiple bars with this rhythm, you can fix it once and copy/paste or Alt/Opt+click to other locations.

Thanks for the reply. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t have a problem with the way Dorico notates this. The problem is the tremolo. The way Dorico shows it, the snare would roll all the way to the sixteenths. (The first meas. example should show the roll on bt. 3 too, like the 2nd measure). But the roll ends at the 4th beat 8th note. That’s why it has to be notated like the Sibelius example.

But in that case why don’t you notate the half note tremelo and then an eight note and connect them with a slur?

After using force duration to create a half note on beat 2 tied to an eighth note on beat 4 and applying a three strokes tremolo, select the eighth notehead in engrave mode and set the Single stem tremolo property to None:

Thank you both. Maarten, that is precisely what I ended up doing. Of course, the slur needed to be adjusted downward to look like a tie but that was an easy to do.

John, I will try that the next time. This issue will come up again.

Hi @Scherzo_Trading,

adding to the suggestions above, you can also (after creating the desired rhythm with Force Duration), apply the Tremolo with release:

For the popover (Shift+R then 3r):
