I’m working on inputing a drum set part, and I’d like the snare ghost notes to be in parentheses. Currently, the only way I’ve found to do that is to create a custom notehead. Since this is a technique, it would be really nice to have this under the “Playing Techniques - Unpitched Percussion” popover.
I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use the existing feature to add parentheses to notes? You can do this via the right-click menu.
I think it may be so that the ghost note playback happens automatically with the round brackets.
Dorico already plays back parenthesised noteheads at a reduced level, as governed by this setting in Playback Options:
Am I correct that it is just a reduced dynamic though (as opposed to triggering the Ghost Note Playing Technique)?
Ah yes, that is correct (our ref: STEAM-7312).
A couple minutes after I posted this, I found a way to add parenthesis using the properties tab. However, since this is a way to notate playing technique, it would be really nice if the option was also under “Playing Techniques - Unpitched Percussion.”
I’m not too concerned about playback. While Dorico offers (by far) the most realistic playback I’ve heard from any music notation software, I use my eyes much more than my ears when arranging (my primary usecase for Dorico).
