"So.. it's 2024 and we got no way to sync 2 DAW's to another" ( ? ) ( Pls help Clarify )

Yea, please help me understand how/if that statement is un-true

I am here… Just dabbling with all the different Sequencers, and testing this out, and it seems, there is No Way ( even with MIDI sync ) to have successful synchronization of 2 ( or more Major DAW’s ) together

This all started when i realized it was not even possible to sync FL Studio with Renoise, using MIDI Sync ( bc both DAW’s have some kind of SPP reception broken … and it does not work as intended either way )

So i am just wanting to see if/how there is a workaround / who/which DAW developer would fix what… bc this is like the most basic feature in the DAW ( we are talkin about 80’s tech literally ) that you would expect to work out of the box

So i did several testings…

Cubase to FL, Cubase to Bitwig, Cubase to Renoise
FL to Renoise
Bitwig to FL, Bitwig to Renoise

All with the same MIDI loopback ports

And the weirdest of the weird anywhere, is that only Bitwig seems to send SPP’s and only Renoise seems capable to receive them ( if/when sent properly ) from other DAW’s

Is this really so ? That there is no way to synchronize a DAW with MIDI in 2024 ? lol… almost like hillarious, unless it’s not bc i am a musician… wanting to sync a daw to make music like people used to be able to…

Please would someone help end this purgatory ( for ( us ) musicians… ) ?

Links to VIDEOs :
8.07 MB file on MEGA Cubase - FL SPP Not working

5.32 MB file on MEGA Cubase does not send SPP’s to Renoise or any DAW

6.86 MB file on MEGA Cubase syncing to Bitwig no SSPs are sent-received even in stop mode

6.19 MB file on MEGA FL Only Receives Start+Stop not even song pointers from Bitwig

5.94 MB file on MEGA FL Sends SPP ( Only in STOP Mode, then resets Status ) when Playback started, all SPP’s erased

4.02 MB file on MEGA FL Sends SPP to Bitwig ( only in Stop mode ), then Resets the start position on play

5.51 MB file on MEGA Renoise the only DAW to receive SPP’s in 2024 ( and Bitwig the only one to send them properly )

Working with VST System Link

?

There used to be Rewire. Steinberg actually helped invent it. But it’s been retired.

There is ableton link, but it works with pt, ableton, bitwig.
Not yet with cubase :frowning:

I don’t understand why you need synchronization between 2 DAWs. I need synchronization between video editing software and a DAW. That would be amazing.

All you have to understand is that there are people other than yourself who might find it useful.

Is MIDI Timecode not working anymore?

Depends on which one and how these days since rewire was nuked. Usually MTC is the answer, it’s just some daws act like they can’t do anything without a audio driver selected…or you need the same sample rate etc.

I use Cubase 14, Reason Studios 13 plugin, MPC64 plugin all together. They’re plugins, but technically 3 daws lol. Have a few midi instrument racks routed into the MPC, synths routed into synths via midi, and the audio interface midi I/O. Everything syncs for me…Gives me multi-outputs for audio if applicable…but I understand thread is more of a bare bones general daw thing and not a plugin thing.

It’s tough to get all these companies to invest time to build a middle ground with extensive tests and communication to make us all happy.

I managed to sync VEGAS and Cubase using MIDI Timecode and no other software.
I think.
I only did the once for a one-off purpose.

This is kind of what it seems like in most DAWs… so wanting to have clarification how / is it possible to sync using MIDI

thanks for sharing… yea looking for a general solution of getting the MIDI Sync ( or MTC ) to work between the DAW’s.

You can control VEGAS from Cubase using virtual MIDI ports. (I don’t have any other DAW - I’m a one-DAW-kinda-guy.)
There’s no sound, but you can see the Time displays are in sync. It’s also wide screen (5120 x 1440) so use max res otherwise it’s blurry.

PS
What is SSP?

Bring back ReWire!!!

Thank you, yea i see it is working with Vegas ( as intended )

Wonder how to do it with DAWs too

SSP = ( typo for ) SPP ( song position pointers )

that would be like the most celebrated thing by all the musicians ( or a logistical alternative… anything that works will set many free )
