Soft licence?

I’m really not tech at all, but seeing the elicense news ending May 2025, leaving me confused , I’m using Cubase 10.5 Pro , can I just upgrade now to latest version , rather than wait until its dead and rebuy whole new version ?
Does this make sense , can any body advise cheapest option ?
Thanks

Hi,
yes, you should take the upgrade update route which is cheaper than buying a full license. You have time untill the 20th of May. In other words, you could also wait a little bit longer and see if Steinberg offers any special deals before they shut down the old licensing system for good. Maybe you want to set a reminder in your calender not to miss it or sign up for the Steinberg newsletter to get the info.

Just to make clear: Your current license stays with you and you will be able to use Cubase 10.5 for as long as the USB dongle continues to function.

What will end with May '25 is:

  • the ability to get an upgrade to the latest version at a reduced price
  • replacement of the USB dongle
  • any management functionality of the e-Licenser software

Your current license will also probably lose quite a bit of value on the second hand market in case you will want to sell it.

But: Cubase 10.5 will continue to run.

As to May 2025, I agree SB might then offer an even-better last-minute promotion for dongle-oriented owners. Or not

Here you go:

Btw, it is an Update, of course, as the OP already owns the Pro version. My bad. I will correct that accordingly in my previous post.
