Solved | Dorico -> Pianoteq vst - Buffer Size 512?

Hi,
using Dorico Elements on Windows 11 with RME Babyface interface.
Setup:
Keyboard → Midi Out → Babyface Midi In → Babyface USB → Notebook → Dorico.

When I use Pianoteq Standalone Player (Dorico not started) I get 48 samples buffer size.
But when I load Pianoteq as VST Instrument into Dorico I get 512 samples.
I can’t find a setting in Dorico to reduce the buffer size.
Any idea?

Pianoteq Standalone:

The place that I know in Dorico where you can influence buffer size globally is menu Edit>Device Setup…>Device control Panel (on Mac thought…)

How does this cause you a problem?

That is my second screenshot - it is 48 samples there.

I get a noticible delay when playing the keyboard. I am new to Dorico and don’t know if this delay is normal when using a vst instrument in Dorico instead of playing the standalone software.

Solved:
I got an answer on the modartt (Pianoteq) forum:
The user Coises wrote:
“Open Dorico. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences. In the list at the left, choose Play. Scroll to the bottom and open Advanced Options. Uncheck Enable ASIO-Guard. Apply, Close, then close and restart Dorico.”

It worked - with Asio Guard off I get the buffer size like set in the audio interface settings.

Hi @Klimper ,
I think that ASIO Guard is the issue here.
If you open the Dorico Preferences dialog and choose the Play tab, at the very end are the Advanced Settings where you can switch ASIO Guard off. How does it behave then?

@Ulf, yes just a few seconds  but it was Saturday 7:30 am; are you working 24/7 without sleeping? I just had a first coffee and tried the Asio Guard solution half asleep

:grinning: I’m an early bird, already up since 5 o’clock
