[SOLVED] Drum Editor - Quantize Preset / Snap Issue

Historically, I’ve used the Key Editor when coding midi drums. I decided to try out using the Drum Editor today and ran into a very frustrating issue.

Using the Key Editor, I use custom key commands to switch through different Quantize Presets (1/16, 1/8 Triplet, etc) and this reflects on the grid, allowing me to insert notes with the subdivision I’ve chosen. This saves a lot of time and mouse clicks.

Quantize Presets

When I try use the same workflow using the Drum Editor, the grid does NOT reflect the chosen subdivision. It seems to ignore the “Quantize Preset” altogether.

Instead, if I want to insert notes with a different subdivision, I have to click on the “Snap” value located at the left side of the Drum Editor and choose the intended subdivision.

What’s worse is that EVERY “Drum Sound” has its own “Snap” value. This means that if I want to code a drum fill that uses 16th note triplets across six different drums, I have to adjust the “Snap” value for ALL SIX of those “Drum Sounds”. This takes a lot of mouse clicks and is not at all an intuitive workflow. Being someone with nerve/tendon issues in my hands/wrists, this is a very tedious, painful show-stopper.

With all this said, is there some sort of way to force the Drum Editor to respect the Quantize Preset?

Thankfully, I was able to find the solution on my own.

You can access a menu called “Grid Type” where you’re able to choose between:

  • “Use Quantize”
  • “Adapt to Zoom”
  • “Use Snap from Drum Map”

With that said, I’ll be using the Drum Editor for coding midi drums going forward. Great feature!
