[SOLVED] Midi controller not working - probably something stupid

Hello,

This is my first time using this forum, and I am also relatively new to DAWs. Using PC Windows 10. I can hear sound through my headphones, and I can record with the microphone. My midi controller when recording shows the keys going down in Cubase, and it is recorded in the track that the notes are high or low, but no wave imagery and therefore no sound. When I first ran Cubase my piano keyboard (Casio PX-S3000) did not show up as a midi controller. After some forum hopping went to download the patch script from Casio for my model, specifically for Cubase, and put the .txt file into the patch folder. Since there was no entry for Casio I put it in “Other.” I had a similar problem with Cakewalk, although in that case, the midi controller produced sound/waves for a week. It must be something stupid I’m doing/not doing. So stupid that youtubers couldn’t even be bothered to use it for content. Thanks for the input.

I’ve been messing around and creating a midi track with the CASIO set as both input and output, and that works. I hear the sound come through my piano when playing the recorded track. BUT What I really want is to plug in my keyboard, select a virtual instrument, and play/record with me monitoring the sound through headphones. I used to be able to do this plug and play with garageband when I had a mac. I know gb isn’t very sophisticated, but I can’t handle real fancy yet.

Reading between the lines it sounds like you are recording onto a MIDI Track. With MIDI Tracks you need to manually manage the relationship between the MIDI data and the Virtual Instrument. That’s a very old method & a lot of extra effort.

Instead of using MIDI Tracks try Instrument Tracks instead. They integrate the MIDI & Audio into one easy to manage Track Type.

Also for any MIDI based Track you’ll never see an Audio waveform. Only Audio Tracks (singers, guitars etc.) will display waveforms.

Hey,

Aha, thanks for the noob friendly words. I am one. How I thought midi files should have waveform xD

[Insert] Photo of donkey here. I was wondering where my instrument dropdown is… Maybe I should’ve installed the instrument list. Maybe. See, I told you it was something stupid.

Sorry for wasting yalls time, and thanks.
