"SOLVES" Make cello thumb fingering (“T”) independently scalable?

Hi everyone,

I’m engraving cello music in Dorico 5 and I’m using the built‑in fingering popover (Shift+F). Typing T gives me the thumb sign, which is great, but its size seems tied to the general fingering text size.

I would really like the thumb symbol to be a bit larger as my edited bigger 1–4 fingerings, and to have this apply automatically and globally (including in new projects), without needing to adjust the Scale property for each instance in Engrave mode.

Is there currently any way to:

  • set a different default size just for the thumb fingering, or

  • define a dedicated “thumb” style that behaves like regular fingering but with its own scaling?

If this isn’t possible yet, I’d like to suggest adding an option so that thumb position fingerings can have their own size setting in Engraving Options or Fingering Font Styles.

Thanks in advance for any advice, and I hope this can be considered as a future enhancement.

Hi, @cellicello!

You can change the playing technique size in the editor. As example:

And, to be as default, set/save to this:

Thank you. I’ll give it a try ^.^ But I would prefer a Fingering Popover solution…

You’re apparently using plain font for the fingerings, which corresponds to the Fingering Text Font in Font Styles.

The thumb symbol, however, follows the Fingering Font (in Font Styles as well).

So, unless if you need the Fingering Font elsewhere, you can increase its size, and it should just make your thumb symbol bigger:

That’s what I wanted.
On my way to do it the thumb stays the same.

Do you enter the thumb by typing T in the F popover?

Yes that’s what I do

Could you upload the file, or just a short example showing the issue? I can’t guess why it doesn’t work on your end…

Ok I understand now.
I choose Plain font as an AI told me that’s the only way to change the font to Arial.

Then I have to set the size of my fingering 1 2 3 4 with Fingering Text Font in Font Styles.
and the thumb with Fingering Font Font Styles.

Wish it would be simpler but it worked thank you.
