Some Instruments, when pasting, change voice

The attached file is a clarinet section. The Eb clarinet and Bass clarinet are all in Voice I. When you copy from Eb clarinet to 1st clarinet the pasted notes change to another voice. Ditto, to the other clarinet parts. The bass clarinet, when copied, changes voice in Ist clarinet but stays in voice I for 2/3 clarinets. Why’s this happening and what’s the easy fix?

Isn’t it an XML import? Because there’s something unusual: Clarinets 2 and 3 and bass clarinet all have only one voice, a downstem voice 1.

To clean everything up you can do the following:

  • select the notes of the bass clarinet, right‑click > Voices > Change Voice > New Upstem Voice
  • activate the caret on Clarinet 2, create an upstem voice by typing Shift+V+V and enter a note.
  • Do the same for Clarinet 3.
  • Save and close the project. When you reopen it, everyone will be in upstem voice 1 and copy/paste will work normally.

Also, your Bb clarinets and flutes are section players, which can cause problems. It would be better to replace them with individual players. If you don’t know how to do it, please ask!

I did that initially and still, when pasting from the other voices it changed voice on the paste. My final workaround was to highlight and cut all the notes out of one part then paste them back into the same part with Paste Special/paste into voice I. That did the trick. It wasn’t an XML import file however, I was cutting and pasting, initially, from an XML import.
