Some midi keys send cc7 value 53 on the track

I have a rather strange issue with my M-audio 49e midi keyboard, Cubase 14 and Focusrite 6i6. I load up any VST and start playing and suddenly the main volume in that VST jumps to very low. This happens when pressing D# and B from lower octave and G from higher octace. This repeats in two octave intervals. I can reset the volume to 0 and start playing and if I avoid those keys all is fine but it limits my scales quite a bit

While writing this it occurred to me to check if something appears on the midi when recording and yes, there is a value 53 appearing on the CC7 attribute (main volume) when one of these keys is pressed. This is a hint! It’s clearly midi issue now but I have no I dea how to get rid of this beaviour. Midi goes via USB, drivers updated etc. No pedals or other devices connected to this setup.

Please assist me with this puzzle if you have encountered something similar or might have a clue. I don’t!

Thanks for listening.

This is probably one of the knobs of your controller sending this. Try to find out which knob sends cc7 and wiggle it for a while to clean its contacts or wiggle all knobs.
As you can see it is not in sync with note starts. I am pretty sure this is it, from experiencing it myself with another controller.

That’s a good observation. I will try that, if it doesn’t help I think my controller is broken. Oh well, it’s over 20 years old so I guess it might be a good time to get a new one.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me and have a great summer!
