One big problem with Dorico is having different kind of staff. For example, when producing a master rhythm or lead sheet, we often want to write the drum
Part on staff at 50% size without staff line between the treble and the bass clef.Easy to do with Finale, impossible with Dorico. Also, it is impossible to have different kind of music font on the same project. It is also hard to ajust the chord symbol. For example, on a C7(#5) , the #5 is way to small, hard to read and impossible to adjust
I am open to switch to Dorico, but it as to be as flexible as Finale.
Thanks
Each of the items in “Font Styles” can be set to a different music font, if you really want.
You can configure Noteheads to be different fonts in the Notehead Set Editor.
Most other Music symbols can be set to glyphs from other fonts in the Music Symbols Editor.
Accidentals can be configures in the Tonality Editor.
You can then save all these things as your defaults, if you really want.
As said elsewhere, if you think a particular assortment of random glyphs from different fonts is best, you might want to consider creating a font with all those glyphs in one place.
Ok. Got it. Actually, there is a solution, but it involves getting a line less staff which is not native to Dorico, but once you have should be the only time you need to create it. Then you can enter/copy the drum on a drum-and change the instrument to the lineless staff; then right-click it and reduce the staff size. I feel that @FredGUnn would be of help here, as he has a collection of no-line staffs. Let’s see what he says.
Back at the studio now. Basically, you would get this (which was super-easy), but without the remaining line. It has to do with with editing a library file. Hopefully someone will chime in soon with one of those, and then you’ll be set.
Janus’s suggestion of rhythmic cues could well be a very good option here - although that would require the source material to exist on another staff in the project, but that player wouldn’t need to appear in the score or part.
