Some virtual instruments don't make any sound

Last November, I upgraded to Dorico Pro 6.

This week I had a job to make some musical arrangements. It was frustrating not being able to freely use an orchestral score, as I had problems with Halion, which comes by default when installing. Sometimes it didn’t sound, and other times parameters were moved; in short, some instruments didn’t sound.

I have Halion 7, but I understand that Dorico uses the free version by default.

In the end, I had to work in the Nuendo 14 score editor, but I would appreciate it if someone could guide me to learn how to use the virtual instruments that come by default in Dorico.

Hi @JeanPlascet,

not sure if you now managed to use Halion 7, or if you managed to install Halion Sonic 7 (the free version). If so you may want to try the Halion Sonic version in Dorico: you can set the preferred plugin in Preferences:

If you have problems, attaching the Dorico Diagnostic Report file (which you can generate from menu Help) can be a good starting point for the Team to help. Together with a detailed description of the issue (which instruments? which parameters? etc…).

Basically if all is installed correctly, you just need to (re)apply the Auto Playback Template and all should work automatically. What would you like to learn about using the default virtual instruments usage?
There is a quite comprehensive Video series on the Dorico YT channel, all about Playback. Maybe you find there what you need. (Otherwise please ask specific questions).:

I have both installed; Halion Sonic and Halion 7.

The suggestion to check Dorico’s diagnostic report is a great idea.

I really appreciate your response and the video you shared.
