I have a strange problem, one of my vst3 plugin (Shreddage amp XTC to be precise) doesn’t appear in in Dorico 6 Pro’s insert plugin list. I tried clearing audio engine cache as well as resetting audio engine data and then restarting Dorico, still it doesn’t detect the said vst3 plugin. Not sure what am I doing wrong, any suggestions to resolve this issue?
Mac or Windows? Is it in the VST3 folder with others that are showing up?
Does it use Kontakt, if so, does it show in Kontakt? Does Dorico find Kontakt as a VST?
I assume you installed it with the Pulse installer which should ensure it’s installed and registered properly? Clearly this is not a Kontakt plug-in. As above, first thing to check is the vst actually appears in the vst3 folder

I use MacBook Pro M4, and yes it’s in the VST3 folder where all my VST3 plugins reside, and only the Shreddage amp XTC doesn’t show up. It doesn’t use Kontakt. Kontakt does show up as a VST3 plugin. Further amp XTC shows up and also works normally in Logic Pro 12 as an audio plugin. Amp XTC also shows up in Plugin Doctor as a VST3 plugin.
It appears very strange only this plugin doesn’t show up in Dorico 6 Pro.

I’ve had cases where the vst doesn’t show up if it’s buried in subfolders… try moving it to the top level perhaps…
Hi @Ravindran , I guess for some reason that plug-in went to the blocklist with you.
To find out, first do create a diagnostic report (Help > Create Diagnostic Report), unzip that one and navigate in that folder to AudioEngine\Dorico 6 AudioEngine\Dorico 6 AudioEngine VST3 Cache (arm64). In there you should find the file vst3blocklist.xml. Drag and drop that file into a webbrowser, what does it show?
Just one other little thing – I assume it’s not off the bottom of your vst list? The scrolling is not ideal on some systems and sometimes items near the end of a long list can be hidden off-screen. To make quite sure, you could type the name in the new search field. Failing that, Ulf will no doubt get to the bottom if it.

Yes the blocklist does contains Shreddage amp XTC vst3, this is what it reads as in a browser
“/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/Shreddage Amp XTC.vst32026-03-26T16:55:03Z2026-03-26T16:42:09Z0”
How do I get it unblocked?

I did check that right at the beginning, it doesn’t figure at all in the list, looks like it is in block list as mentioned by Ulf.
yes – that was always the most likely explanation as you seem to know what you’re doing!
Then please do a manua scan of that plug-in.
Please open a Terminal window and copy & paste the following command:
/Applications/Dorico\ 6.app/Contents/Applications/VSTAudioEngine6.app/Contents/Components/vstscanner -p /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3/[plug-in name.vst3]
where you have to replace [plug-in name.vst3] with the exact name of that plug as it appears in the file system. Then you hit the return/enter key and the output of that command please copy and paste into a reply here. Thanks

Okay, yes, it’s an error, but now it is clear what the problem is. You have a new model Mac with Apple Silicon chip as opposed to the old Macs with Intel processors.
Now, your Shreddage Amp plug-ins is compiled only for Intel machines, that means Dorico can’t load it straight away, it needs some translation layer, also known as Rosetta mode. In order to start Dorico in Rosetta mode, do a right click on the Dorico 6.app and choose GetInfo. In the middle of that window is a checkbox for Rosetta mode.
But Rosetta will get discontinued in the near future anyway, so you better ask the plug-in vendor for a native Apple Silicon version of the plug-in and install that.
Ah! Ok! got it. Thanks a lot Ulf, I shall take up with the developer.
Maybe the vst3 version is not yet compiled for Apple Silicon machines, however, the AU version works fine in Logic Pro 12 without Rosetta interface.

You could use a intermediary like Vienna Ensemble Pro 8 (VEP8). I just did that because I was worried about Milan Audio not producing a Hauptwerk VST3 for Apple Silicon before Rosetta disappears sometime next year. They do, however, have Audio Units. I load the AU version into VEP8 by adding the plugin to VEP8.
VEP8 connects to Dorico seamlessly and provides a nice interface for AU, VST and VST3 plugins. I would use it exclusively as my interface to instrument libraries but there is one exception that does not work: Cantai.
Anyway, you can download a free trial of VEP8 if interested. You will need an iLok account to use it.
