Some XML imports fail

One longstanding weakness in Finale is the fact that it is possible to enter tuplets that look correct, but where the undertlying metrics are wrong. These won’t reveal themselves until the music is pasted or inserted elsewhere in the document, and typically look as shown earlier in this thread. Prior to version 25, these cases were ignored by Finale’s manual duration checking routine (plugin “check region for durations”). Unless this plug-in is run manually, these cases will survive. It’s a good idea to always run this plugin on a finished project, especially since the performance has improved in version 25.

It’s strange that these errors aren’t ironed out by the XML export routine, but apparently are passed along verbatim. That MM apparently spend resources on masking the problem, rather than eleminate it at the root, is another sign of decline…

Well, there’s an English proverb that says something like “the shoe-maker’s children always have holes in their shoes”. And as an American billionaire once said, “Only the little people pay tax”.

If you invent a standard, that doesn’t mean you personally have to follow it! Microsoft used to do exactly the same - ignoring its published “standards” for Windows when writing its own apps like Word.
